Scarlett O'Hara & William Wallace
Irish Setters
When dreams come true.
I grew up with the memory of Arno, an orange-and-white English Setter, who was one of the most spectacular dogs I have ever known. I had always wanted a dog, specifically an Irish Setter, because to me it has always embodied the ideal of a joyful, affectionate, and happy companion to share life with. However, knowing that I needed and wanted to provide him with everything necessary and useful for his happiness, I always postponed it until I had a house with a garden.
And so, in 2014, Scarlett O’Hara Degli Angeli Rossi arrived—an adorable, full-of-spunk little setter. It was love at first sight. Exactly as I had always dreamed: a deep red coat, almost mahogany, very dark eyes, and a big black nose. She immediately fit in wonderfully with my cats and became a phenomenal helper, because she acts as my "spy" when a female cat is in heat but it’s not visible yet... yet she senses it!
The idea of having her have a litter was always in the air, and one fine day, agreeing with her breeder (Gloriana Danzé Degli Angeli Rossi, to whom I say: "THANK YOU for the millionth time"), we arranged for a mating with their handsome George (Zannanza, 2014 world champion), and thus the second setter was born: William Wallace, or just Wallace to me.
If I had ever thought I’d had a spunky puppy before, it was because I hadn't yet met a true little "chili pepper"! Affectionate to the point of exhaustion, loving, impetuous, and intrusive in such a funny and adorable way that no one ever complains. Everyone who comes over to see the cats has to pay a toll: at least 15 minutes of cuddles. What can I say, I could never watch television again without his big head resting on my stomach. With the two of them -mom Scarlett and earthquake Wallace- there is neither boredom nor loneliness.
